This is quite annoying. I've now had to force my 27" i7 iMac off twice. I watch Activity monitor, and almost nothing is using any memory. I had finder completely freeze. And somehow I'm now missing a program I installed a while back that I didn't delete.

I've used Onyx to do checks and try to speed it up, but at this point, there are times my Dual Core Macbook is faster.

Ideas?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Have you run the apple hardware test? My 24" iMac started doing that before it died. I had some faulty ram, and my graphics card died. I would guess on yours a faulty ram chip. I would remove one and see if it continues. If it doesn't the first time swap them and check. If that doesn't fix it then it maybe some hardware issue...

It may well not be your CPU or RAM that is slow. It may be that your hard drive is failing. One of the tale signs that a hard drive is failing is unexplained system slowness or freezes.

If you have external USB drives that sleep that could be your issue. That often contribute to a pinwheel -rainbow wheel

Did an extended hardware test. It came up fine. Smart Status is still verified. And the computer is only 2-3 months old.

Might just be some of the programs? I know VMware tends to use memory, but not show it...

Hmm.

This is really starting to bug me, as now a CD won't eject. Slot loading is a crap design.

Edit: Had to shut down, the computer went into its blue shut down screen and had the little timer spin for at least 2-3 mins, I got impatient and forced it off. Rebooted and forced eject.

Ran Smart Reporter. Results are the same as before:

Look okay?

And now to add on. I just went to look for a folder I constantly work with, and it's gone. Any ideas on what might cause my files to RANDOMLY delete?
