Are the i7's quiet machines?

Caressa has a long post where she says her i5 is very quiet.

There was another i7 thread where the OP said the fans were loud, but I think he was doing encoding at the time (Caressa, want to give up fans speeds while encoding?) That's the only comment I saw on i7 noise.

I thought the i5 and i7 had the same TDP. What the real world noise levels of the i7? Owners, please weigh in.

It's quiet. Not as quiet as the 24", but quiet. Disk drive makes some slight noises. My wife says it sounds like the computer has a hungry stomach.

I would describe my i7 as quiet. I had Aperture generate previews for 5000 photos and the fan sound was never as loud as my old iMac G5. Also not nearly as loud as my Xbox 360.

I don't hear a thing. In fact, the only internal
noises I hear is when a CD/DVD is inserted and
it begins spinning up.

Very silent computer.

Whisper quiet for the most part.... with handbrake running, no noticeable fan noise at a sensible viewing distance. The hard disk is noticeable but well muffled, though I'm used to the constant hum of a tower where everything else is obscured and down by my feet, whereas the iMac is quieter than the hiss from my external speakers

My new 27" i7 seems just as quiet as my 24" iMac was, which is to say -- silent.
