I wonder how Apple will charge for the AI capabilities. In thesis, models running in device should be “free”. But not everything is solved locally - they need a cloud service, which costs a lot of money to run.

Will we have a limited number of runs per day? The unlimited use will probably cost around 20 to 40 USD per month, I would guess…

I would guess that Apple either makes it free or includes it in its iCloud+ subscription. Maybe they raise the price of iCloud+ but hopefully not.

They might tie it into an Apple One subscription, but only after people are hooked on AI features.

(I think Samsung has been planning something similar, as they introduced AI features with their phones this year, and said they'll introduce MORE AI features next year, but behind a paywall.)

Apple could throttle the responses once a limit is hit. Another way is just to have a time limit of two years for example. After you hit that limit, you either need to subscribe or buy a new device.

A subscription feature on day one would be weird. Imagine if satellite SOS was subscription on day one.
