Hello,

Recently because I'm an idiot i upgraded to the 3.1 beta on my iphone 3gs. I then read that you need your iBEC and iBSS files handy in order to jailbreak the phone in the future. in a desperate attempt to get these, i downloaded a copy of the original 3.0 firmware and tried to restore to that.

while it was restoring i used iclarified's method (i think) by going into your /tmp folder and retrieving two folders. One is done in recovery mode and the other is done in dfu mode.
Now i have this folder called "dfu" in one of the folders i got from the /tmp directory which is supposed to contain my iBEC and iBSS. However i only see my iBEC. Am I not seeing the iBSS because i already upgraded to the 3.1 beta? if so is there anything else i can do (i haven't really tried the ECID thing, dont really understand it)

i had upgraded to 3.1 thinking it would solve my overheating problems..which it did but i still want to be able to jailbreak too :(

So if you guys have any suggestions that would be most appreciated.

EDIT: iclarified updated the steps using a terminal command which worked perfectly. I have both now.

Can Not get IBSS

I am on my 7th or 8th cycle through restore/dfu restore and for the life of me can not get the IBSS file. I have a zillion copies of the IBEC but never see an IBSS. I am even using the Grabber program this last cycle and still only getting IBEC. What am I doing wrong? I didn't expect to spend all day trying to grab these files, but so far I've spent over 3 hours. I'm not a newb and have a bit of a clue what I'm doing, but no luck.

Can anyone help me. The process takes forever since I have to keep restoring.

Thanks!

Edit: Could it be that I'm doing this on a Vista 64 machine? That's the only thing I can come up with that might be inhibiting me from finding that IBSS file.

There's going to be a folder that pops up (tmp) when you first go into dfu mode, it only pops up for about 3 seconds thats the folder you need. It took me 2 hrs trying to grab it you have to be fast to copy and paste it. The dfu way has both of those files in the same folder.

I finally got it using the grabber program in DFU mode. What I did was watch my folder and grab the first file that showed up and put it in another folder before it could modify it. I then quickly unplugged my phone and did not have to go through the entire restore process. My only concern is that the files are 103kb instead of 102kb that other state theirs are. Will this be a problem?

yeah it appears pretty quickly.

both my files are 104 kb
im on os x 10.5.7 but 103kb shouldnt make a difference i'm not really sure though

Yeah, it does come fast, I was grabbing the first I saw in my temp file earlier, but was not having any luck. Once I used grabber I could at least see what files were being made, modified and deleted. That's when I got the idea to not let it capture it for me, but to grab it before it's modified. You have only like 3 seconds to react. I am glad I figured it out... took me 5 hours of trying for the first phone and 30 seconds for the second phone... phew... :)
