So I got my iBook clamshell around Christmas right and it was running some old os os I bought the upgrade discs for Mac OS X panther and in the process of updating I accedntley deleted the old os and because the new discs I bought are only upgrade discs now I am stuck with a computer that turns on to a flashing (?) folder thing and some face. So does anyone know what I can do to get my computer working it would be very helpful!!!

Step 1: Find out what version, the exact version, of Mac OS shipped with this when it was new. That “some old os” is key to to success here.

Step2: Find and acquire the disks for the “some old os”. Good luck with that.

Step3: Install the original OS

Step 4: Upgrade to Panther taking care not to make the same mistake that led you here in the first place.

It will probably be easier to just find and buy a full Panther installation disk, but.... This machine originally shipped with the legacy Mac OS 8 or 9. It could literally run two operating systems at the same time. It could run legacy (pre OSX) software as well as the newer OSX software. It would be nice if you could restore the original OS with Panther to keep the computer in original condition.
