ibook drive wear and tear with dvd ripping

Hey guys, I bought all 10 seasons of Friends dvds and would like to back them up using handbrake because they're starting to get scratched and one disc doesnt play anymore.

Do you think an ibook can handle ripping and converting that many dvds?

I have a PC that can do the converting and another computer to do the ripping but the first episode on every dvd doesnt sync well on windows and I think does the same thing using handbrake. I think it's because of the shift in video on the first episodes on the dvds that makes the audio start earlier than it should.

Anybody else backing up their Friends DVDs having this problem?

Granted that a CD is faster than a DVD, I think I've ripped about 300 CDs on my iBook so far... does that help at all?

hmmm i suppose the ibook drive is designed to do this kind of work. Thanks for responding... I guess it's a matter of which matters more... Friends dvds or minor risk of dvd drive failure.

just dont do them one after another non stop give ur drive some rest like 2 discs then a hour break, that way it can cool down . ive had people report to me saying there dvd drive sounds liek **** after burning about 30 cds, i guess it would have the same effect ripping dvds as well

nah thats not all true. i've ripped my 6gig collection when i bought my ibook, drive is still as good as when i bought it. If anything, the ripping will "break-in" your drive so to speak, which is always a good thing with computer parts.
