iBook multiple monitor hack

I'm sure there are a dozen threads out there about this, but here we go.

Does the hack void the apple warranty?

Anyone have horror stories about the hack killing their baby?

Also, any monitor recommendations under $300?

Appreciate the input. Your help is a major drawing point to macs. Macheads are like a friendly community where ALL are willing to help. Sure beats waiting on hold for peecee customer support.
