iBook won't accept epubs on iPhone but will on iPad

Hi everyone,

I have an ePub file I got online that I can open and read fine on my iPad (can also open on my MacBook) but when I try to open it in iBooks on my iPhone it acts like it's opening it (spinning circle), but then nothing happens.
This is the second time I've had this exact problem and I can't figure out why. I just want to read my books on both devices as I please.
I checked settings on all devices, and all of them are set to sync collection and bookmarks.

Any possible fixes??
Help is greatly appreciated!

(Devices: iPad Air 2, iPhone 6, both on latest iOS)
