Got my iPad and downloaded a few free books from the iBookstore. They don't have 'album artwork' so I added them from iTunes>Get Info.

What's the 'preferred' resolution of the cover art? What is the resolution of the cover art [from a book from iBooks which has artwork included]? Some of the images from Google are more square than others so I was wondering what the best resolution would be.

Hopefully you'll understand what I'm trying to ask

Thanks.

Ebooks are tiny compared to music. Album art seems to take very little room in music files but might easily double or triple an ebook file size. I suggest smaller is better. It seems to me that when I start reading in portrait mode, the cover is smaller than my screen on all sides and is probably 800x600 resolution. Of course the covers on the bookshelf are much smaller but if you don't want your cover art looking like an iPhone app running in 2x mode, consider 800x600. But anything larger is an absolute waste of space.

Has anyone else encountered free books that won't accept art added in iTunes. I downloaded three free books from iBooks. Added art to all three through Get Info>Album Artwork. Two accepted the artwork fine, but the last one will not. I have tried four different covers at different sizes and file types, but although the iTunes art changes, in iBooks it still remains coverless.

Has anyone found a reason for this?

Try opening the book and closing it again. Had to do that with my copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland before the artwork would show up (after syncing the 'updated' copy of the book of course).

Thanks for the 800x600 tip r0k.
