The missing iBooks link on the UK iPad store has me worried. I didn't expect them to have iBookstore ready at launch (despite it being a month and a half away) but I was however hoping that we could still use the iBooks app. The bad thing about them putting the iBook app on the app store is they can now control who gets to use it or more importantly, who can't. Maybe I am clutching at straws (hey, we have nothing else to clutch on at the minute!) but I just think we won't have the app available to us at launch.

Hmm, looks like you might be right. But I don't get why they would stop us from at least downloading the app, I don't bloody care if the iBookstore isn't working, I have ePub formatted books that I'd like to use. Ah well, like you said, it's still another month and a half away, they have time to change it, or not.

I agree - I don't care if the store is not available at launch in the UK, I also have epubs that I'd like to read thru the ibooks app. Even more so as I am likely to make use of the inbuilt screen reader, VoiceOver, which the US ibooks page tells me is VoiceOver friendly (a poke in the eye for the Kindle ;) )

What are the chances of Apple letting us download the app if the ibook store is not up for us at that point ?
On the one hand, it would be a nice gesture (lol), but on the other, we know how Apple like their seamless all tidied up things. I wonder if having the app available in countries without an ibook store at launch might not sit well with them for that reason, plus a number of other reasons. One that immediately sprints to mind being they may feel that if people get too used to getting their content elsewhere, they might feel that those people are less likely to buy from the ibook store when it is finally available in other countries. But then again, we users already do this sort of thing with the itunes store and music so - we shall see.

I used that, the only problem is address, but you can make that up. Have fun! :)

Hmmm. I got to choosing the payment method and was not given a "none" option. Hence, no go. :(

EDIT: Ok, I lied - I tried it again and realised I'd forgetton to select some free app goodness first.

Interesting. How will this deal if I did download something free from the usa store and wanted to either sync it to my iphone or indeed use that made-up account to download from my iphone ? Does the iphone sync purely with itunes not with one itunes account, so could you sign in as different itunes account holders on the same machine and get stuff from all of them, then sync it all to one iphone ? If that makes sense ?
Can't try it out because I am not near either my iphone or my iphone syncing machine atm.

Just synced "Bump" which I had downloaded from the US iTunes store and works perfectly. I now have apps from three different stores. The only problem is updates, but that merely means changing stores from time to time.

The iPhone just syncs with your iTunes library and takes no notice of which store your purchase was made. It all just works with no problems.

The store only becomes relevant when it comes to updates for which you will need to log into your different store accounts to download the updates and of course when browsing to make more 'other' country purchases. :)

Gotcha. Thanks for that. :) iBooks app here we come, then, hopefully.
