I LOVE my iPad. I think it is fantastic and lives up to all of the hype. That said, I want to see if anyone else here has observed the same issue that I have.

I read an iBook on the plane yesterday for about 3 hours, which consumed 20% of the battery life (from 96% to 76%). I had WiFi and BT off and the screen at half brightness. Does this battery consumption seem a bit high for ONLY reading an iBook for 3 hours?

Anyone else experience this? I actually did a reset (holding home + sleep button) half way through the flight to see if that might have some effect. Nope.

Thoughts?

The iPad is listed at 10 hours, so 20% for 3 hours is pretty good. That means about 15 hours reading time if the power consumption stays at that level (although it's likely to not last exactly that long).

The screen is the biggest energy draw on the iPad, so this seems right to me.

But the 10 hour rating is for watching video. I thought reading an iBook would be less battery intensive. ?

in most devices, processing the video is what takes up a lot of the battery life and thus makes watching videos drag down your battery. On the iPad, processing the video isn't much different than processing anything else, thus you should get around 10 hours for most everything you do on it. No more, no less, regardless of what you are doing. This is to my understanding, i may be wrong...

I appreciate your comment but that simply doesn't make sense. Video is still more intensive than text.

You didn't say anything about calibrating your battery, have you? If not then the reading may not be accurate.
