So it's something in the GM release

Tried the usual - reboot, delete and install, turning off iBooks iCloud syncing options and background refresh, show iCloud books, etc. Happens when viewing books, PDFs or in the menus. Sometimes dumps back to the home page and seems to leave iBooks running in the background. Sent feedback report.

Any ideas?

I had the same issue way back in the first or second beta. When I opened iBooks, I had to quickly click a different button on the bottom tab. If you are in a book already, just keep trying to hit the arrow button to get back to your bookshelf, before the app closes. Then reopen and try and quickly tap a section along the bottom bar. I can't remember which section I went into, I doubt it matters.

I've tried to upload a pic to help, but the forums are being finicky this morning. Sorry. If my instructions are unclear, I'll try and clarify.

I understand what you are referencing. It does seem to make it work until the next restart.

Do you still have the problem or was it finally rectified in a later build?

Thinking of stripping all of the pdf's to another app for viewing. Something that syncs well. Could be that I have a ton of books and pdfs. Lots of manuals.

Thanks for the tip

I only had the problem in that beta version. Turning off iCloud syncing, doing the quick open iBooks, then hitting the bottom tab, and turning icloud syncing back on fixed it.
To be fair, around the same time I also, wiped and then restored my devices from iCloud. It's quite possible that the restore might have fixed my issues. While this was overall a very stable beta cycle, i did have to reset settings a couple times and also one restore to all iOS devices. So, you could also try those troubleshooting methods first.

Arrrggghhhh. Didn't work, still getting springboard crashes with the app running in the background.

Going to try deleting a bunch of books from sync and seeing if that helps.

Hey. I'm using a 6 plus and I'm on a dev account. I've been on betas for 9 and 10 without ever doing any fresh restores. I have not had any issues with iBooks at all. I've been trying to play with the app once an hour since reading your thread this morning and I'm not having any issues with it. Sorry. I hope you can come up with a solution.
Good luck.

I appreciate the input. Something weird going on as reports of this have gone back for years over several iOS versions.

Also getting crashes on PDF expert trying to read files, so it is possible that there is a corrupted pdf causing these issues, but I went though all pdfs and culled any dupes and tried loading just books or just a few pdf's onto the iOS device. Still got crashes.

One thing that may work is simply turning off wifi and cellular. That seems to help somewhat. I also have had several iTunes crashes (Sierra GM 10.12) and still don't understand why I can't simply drag PDF files to my device on iTunes like I used to be able to. When selecting On My Device, I only see a "shuffle" option and no edit or add option, nor does the green plus sign appear when dragging anywhere in iTunes. Doesn't seem to make a difference if you turn off all cloud syncing.

New to Sierra as of today, so I probably just don't understand the interface.

Also finding that iOS 10 is a bit glitchy and doesn't respond smoothly when scrolling. I am getting a lot of ratcheting on a 9.7 iPad Pro and Mini 4. Could still be doing its indexing thing...
