I downloaded a sample of a couple of books in iBooks and Kindle to compare. What is wrong with iBooks and no formatting? Is this just in samples or is this widespread problem with iBooks in general? Here is a pic of Dean Koontz Shadowflies in both. Found the same lack of formatting in several others.

It's got to be the way the book was done. I've got kindle books I've converted to epub and a few purchased books from the iBooks store and they are all formatted fine when read in the iBooks app.

I had this same problem with "Children of Dune" from Frank Herbert, which I downloaded last week in iBooks. Apple already refunded my money, I get to keep the book and they promised it will be flagged and fixed by the publisher.

All the other 8 books I've downloaded were formatted perfectly.

My Advise: Always download the Sample before buying, so you can check for such problems. You can even read the first few chapters then click the link within the Sample itself to buy the rest.

Just a hearty thanks again to all you wifi-guys who are helping get things all sorted and de-bugged before the 3G's ship :D;)

So this is a hit and miss problem likely created buy a rush to get as many books as possible by launch date? Hope Apple is spending some time cleaning up these. Until OS 4.0 comes out I will probably go with Kindle since I can read on my iPhone too. Also all the books I checked were more expensive in iBooks. I thought that one of Apple's stipulations were that books couldn't be sold for less on other sites.

Also you get better descriptions and sorting options on Amazon that the iBooks store offers.

Yeah, I was surprised that some books didn't have descriptions. I didn't really want to download and read a sample, I just wanted to read a short description.

I've found the same types of formatting issues in some of the Kindle titles I've bought, so it's not just iBooks. It really depends on each book. Checking samples is a good idea.
