iBooks night mode missed a golden opportunity to have the black pixels truly black (off).

Make it happen!

A large contrast ratio is not necessarily good for your eyes or for reading. A printed page has a very low contrast ration between page and lettering comparatively, as does something like a kindle.

Black pixels would be better for the burn-in of the Oled screen though. White letters change everytime you switch the page.
 
It’ll come, surprised it wasn’t there at the beginning. Safari reader mode shipped as a grayish black and then in in 11.1 it became pure black, so guessing they’ll eventually get to it.
