iBooks Question

I know that no one really knows many details yet but I'm wondering since you can add free ePub books to iTunes for download to your iPad, I wonder if you will be able to take files and convert them to ePub format and download them to iBooks. Quite often I run across long text files on the web that I like to capture and read later. I do this a lot with travelogues. It would be great to be able to copy the text, save to a text file, convert to ePub format and then download to my iPad. Is anyone else interested in doing this and do you think it will be possible. On my iPhone, right now I do this with iSilo and I guess I could continue to do it the same way on my iPad but it sure would be nice if I could read the files in iBooks.

I would assume so, since you can add free epub books to itunes that it would allow any type of epub files, even ones you convert.

And you can add free ePub titles to iTunes and sync them to the iBooks app on your iPad.

If this means that I can download Stanza books into iTunes, that is great news.

I'm assuming this will be very easily accomplished with calibre (Win/OSX, free).

That said, I think the original poster may mean a one-stop app *for the ipad* that does the conversion of web text to ePub on the fly.

So the short answer is: calibre, which can convert from and to many formats including ePub.

that would be amazing. Just convert my pdf books like i do normally with stanza, and sync them with iTunes, instead of using stanza to read them. Keep it within the iBook's app. Next question i'm hoping to be answered is that, i have a bunch of books within the Kindle iPhone app. Hopefully that app is still compatible with iPad

calibre also have support for downloading news article and convert it on the fly to epubs. Check out its news sources or add your own.

Thanks for the link to Calibre. Now the question is will Apple let us take ePub books off our desktop computers and upload to iPad thru iTunes or will it only let us get free ePub books from existing sources like Project Gutenberg. It would be great if they let us create them ourselves but that is so un-Appleish.

I suppose they could still lock it down somehow. Preventing you from using your existing ebook library at all seems counter-intuitive to me, but I am fairly new to the Apple juggernaut.
