Okay, if they do make a browser:

names:

iBrowse (like eyebrows, i dont' think so!)
iBrowser is too cheesy
iSurf... maybe hmmm
iWeb i like it

ithink our best bet is iSurf. I hope they come out with it soon, b/c I am fed up with ie, and netscape is really slow!

Why does it have to start with "i"?

Apple has other apps like Mail, Sherlock, Address book etc. which don't start with "i".

And a web browser wouldn't really be an "iApp", because the iApps are the digital lifestyle kind of apps, which a web browser is not.

I think if they ever did it, they would just call it "Browser" or "Navigator".

Your honor, I object! As you have stated in your argument, said program would "not be a digital lifestyle app". An internet browser is your entire gate to a world of information. Therefore, said application would be considered as such in your statement, and therefore could begin with an "i". (Sorry aobut the lawyer crapola, I want to be one when i grow up lol)

Acutllly, i see part of ur point- sherlock is one of those, and mail, but they aren't i...good one

My argument for a browser not being a digital lifestyle app is that the iApps seem to be designed to integrate with other (non-computer) devices that are part of your digital lifestyle.

iTunes: mp3 player
iMovie: digital video camera
iPhoto: digital camera
iDVD: DVDs

And I can't think of a name for a browser starting with "i" that wouldn't sound cheesy.

I rest my case.

That doesn't mean you can rest your case.

What about iNet? It sounds funny at first, but didn't iPod first sound funny at first?

Hi everyone. Think this is very true. No way that Apple is going to release a iweb, ibrowse.
My money is on simply "Web", why not? They already have Mail so Web is logical and simple.
And it´s build on the Chimera project. At least I hope so.

firstly, you could be right about that i part, but i think that there isn't really any substantial evidence that it is based on chimera. if u no something, speak up, or start a thread on it please! i am very interested!

The "i" stopped standing for internet a very long time ago. FOr instance, the internet has nothing to do with the iPod, iTunes, etc. Now its just a branding thing cause the iMac is so well known.

that is a very interesting point, i didnt' think of that, yeah, iMovie, iDvd, guess ur right, but it was originally for internet when the first iMac came out... since then the i must be a ilttle trademark... but the i was originally about jumping on the internet bandwagon from when s.j. came back to apple!!!!

My roommate and I share the same T1 connection and we constantly refer to the internet as the i-net (for short).

iNet rings better than anything I've heard so far.

The Web
The Net

Or use something from a diff language

(I forget how to say it let me look in sherlock!)

surfez l'Internet (surf the internet)

dave Hyatt was hired by Apple to make improvements on their help viewer. Just a fact...

Well if Dave was to improve it 'enough' we could all be surfing the web from the help viewer. Sure we might not have the fastest web browser in the world but our 'help viewer' kicks major butt. :D

the help viewer is just a really lame html viewer. chimera would be an incredibly awesome help viewer, and as others have pointed out, could excellent at both help and browsing. apple's whole help viewer strategy is rather weird; why not just launch the files in a normal browser, like the old days? it seems odd that apple would bring in a new guy with all of that experience just so that we could have a better product that no one uses. if hyatt was hired exclusively for the help viewer, chances are, it's going to morph into apple's web browser, with chimera as the base.

iKnow!

They could call it the Finder...and then they could interweave it so deeply with the user experience that it couldn't possibly be separated from the OS... and then they could integrate all kinds of cool web objects directly into the desktop... and then...

Oh, wait. That's been done :D

iSurf has a cool ring to it.

did any of you ever see the screenshots from the prototype "opendoc aware" finder? this was before the crappy ms implementation of a web/filebrowser. in the od finder, you could have a cyberdog webpage right next to your normal finder windows, even look at finder contents through an embeded web-viewer. you could have animated thumbnails of movies and buttons in the finder windows that would allow you to run applescripts/sounds/etc. this would have made it almost unnecessary to have "programs" as we know them, just small components, loaded as needed to accomplish a particular task. unfortunately, we dont have this in macosx because apple/ibm decided to kill it (stupid move), so any type of webbrowser integration would just end up with a gigantic ms-esque crap fest. the beauty of opendoc was that it had all of the features you could get from a monolithic app, with none of the bloat.

hopefully we'll see some kind of helpviewer/chimera merger, i think that this would work far better than apple's superfluous lifesaver embarassment.
