well i finally found iCal...the MWNY build...codename White Rabbit...

...these are the known bugs listed in the readme:

+ The print menu item is disabled (hide a crasher)
+ Month recurencies pane : do not press the "31" button
+ Avoid short Events: problem at creation sometimes
+ Recurrences: during detachment avoid pressing the all day event check box
+ Icons in event may be absent if there is not enough place
+ It is not possible to double-click to show inspector for short events
+ Reordering the calendars in the calendar may cause issues
+ Avoid creating and walking through multiday events that cross month boundaries
+ Publish : avoid publication of too complicated recurrences as well as tasks
+ Be sure the settings for Publish/Subscribe are correct : any failure will prevent proper displaying of the application publish/subscribe windows after the failure

ew...it's so incredibly slow...

arg...i hope the final build will be a LOT faster...and have an easier way to make items last for multiple days at the same times (like class schedules)

that's a great song, any of you younger members try to name the band

i spent some more time playing with iCal...besides the speed problems i think it is pretty awesome...and i figured out how to make things work better when you need to do them at the sametime every day/week/month...

JUST MAKE IT FASTER PLEASE

>it's a cool song...then again, the FIRST thing i though of was The Matrix....
------------------------------------------------------------------------
>yah first thing i thought of also
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm from the OLD SKOOL I guess....I don't think I've even seen the Matrix all the way through

white rabbit

Both the song and the Matrix are referencing Alice in Wonderland.
In the song they talk about one pill makes you larger and one makes you small.

In Alice, Alice sees the white rabbit go down the rabbit hole and she follows him. she comes across a bottle that says drink me, she does and she gets very small.
She comes across a piece of cake which has a sign that says eat me, she does and beomes very tall.

In the Matrix, Neo is told to follow the white rabbit (into an unknown world) where he is offered 2 pills, one will give him knowledge and the other will make him forget....

In Alice in Wonderland the white rabbit:

There was nothing so very remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way to hear the Rabbit say to itself, `Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!' (when she thought it over afterwards, it occurred to her that she ought to have wondered at this, but at the time it all seemed quite natural); but when the Rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.

The rabbit was always checking his watch and saying how he was going to be late. So if you are going to write a calendering/time management program, why not name it after the character in Alice in Wonderland?

Here is a copy of the iCal .ics icon vs. the original Tenniel illustration from Alice.
(my wife took a fairytale literature class in college and had me proofread her term paper on Alice in Wonderland  :D )

Yeah, check the icon out. I couldn't figure it out based on the name, but when I saw the icon, i knew it was a reference to alice. Notice the watch, umbrella and waistcoat and the hurried look the rabbit has.

And I always told my wife that her taking a class in fairytale lit was a waste of time.

would you guys who say you also have iCal check the version number in the About iCal?

because my icon is the following...(it changes everyday to the new day number/month name)

The icon i was referring to above is not the applications icon, but the icon for an exported calendar. highlight one of your calendars and choose export from the file menu. the resulting .ics file has the icon i showed above.

neilt

here is a copy of the RC1 of iCal
