Sorry, but I have to vent a little about this so-called MM iCal upgrade...

POST UPGRADE - While moving events around in iCal i have to wait for syncing to occur, it is very slow (lags). This is because my data is in apple's cloud. JUST MOVING EVENTS AROUND!!! The only work-around is to take my laptop offline, make changes, then go back online and let it sync... and yes, I have chosen to keep a copy locally "For Better Performance" - NOT...

I have 3 new very fast Macs and good internet connections (7 MB up /.75 MB down at home - T1 at work). I'm sorry but I could CARE LESS about iCal on MobileMe.com, IT IS SUPER UGLY AND NO WHERE CLOSE TO ICAL LOCALLY!!! I think this upgrade is just a hair shy of a joke... Users of iCal must suffer again...

STILL NO ALARM SUPPORT... REALLY???

You can no longer share a calendar via a browser with a simple url.... sheesh... Now anyone you invite needs software to see it on a pc or a mac. Big step forward... GUESS I WILL NOW SWITCH TO BUSYCAL. DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO... THIS IS MY LIVING OR I WOULD BE DOING SOMETHING ELSE. Apple wants business customers but gives us toys for tools...

NOT HAPPY WITH THIS ONE... GOING TO RIDE MY HARLEY NOW...

I agree. I have just been "forced" to upgrade, which MobileMe is now using "CalDav".

It is SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, SLOW

I also manage over "30" calendars, and the loss of groups has created an organizational nightmare!

Add to that, MobileMe does not replicate changes in the background like it used to is absurd. Now one must wait before you can take action on anything else within iCal.

Many reports have been personally submitted to Apple to fix this. It's stupid to be made less productive in this way!

iCal upgrade

I am so unhappy with the upgrade and judging by the amount of comments on the internet I am not the only one! The biggest problem for me is the removal of groups. I have 21 Calendars which before I had in 6 groups and it was easy to switch them on or off for an uncluttered view. Now it is a laborious task. The only way I can have groups is to have them on local calendars which means they don't get synced with my other devices across mobile me, the very reason why I subscribed to mobile me. I am going to move all my calendars across to local calendars so that I can have my groups back and revert to syncing my devices manually through iTunes as this is the only way I can do it. I haven't time to be unticking 20 calendars on and off everytime I want to see just one calendar. This means that I will no longer use Mobile Me for my calendars. I don't use it for iPhoto as it is not automatic, I use Dropbox to back up photos taken on my phone in case I lose it. I don't use Mobile Me email so that just leaves my contacts that are synced. Haven't yet decided whether £60 per year is worth it just for that one service when I have a time machine. Think probably not and I will go back to syncing manually. I was so delighted with the ease of Mobile Me, why oh why did they have to change things?

I must add though that I am a newbie to Macs and if I have completely misunderstood the way it all works, if anyone has anyone suggestions before I cancel my subscription please post!

it should ease all the tension here, I'm not going to search it for you, but Steve just recently fired what I remember to be the lead on Mobileme service and was outraged at the way it was progressing. SO, yes, the online calendar sucks- I only use MM for sync so I'm not really that peeved. But expect improvements soon (since we're all waiting for the cloud music anyways); remember also they bought two new data-centers, which should make the experience much slicker once the new service is up. Just keeping stuff in context. Theres always Google products! ;)

mobile me - or immobile me

I am totally fed up with Mobile me. First the ICal upgrade caused complete chaos. My calenders were totally messed up and it took two days at an Apple store to sort it out - they also could not work out the problem!
And the email has problems on and off all the time. I migrated from btyahoo and regret it. In all my years with BT I never had an email problem. With me.com I have nothing but. And we pay for this?? What a rip-off. :(

Very unhappy here also...
Since I was forced to upgrade none of my iCal data has appeared on MobileMe calender, and thus I cannot sync to my phone...

Granted I do need to call support, but I know that will take a few hours of troubleshooting and it is hard for me to get this time...

Support?!

I called support today but you can only deal with anyone from the Mobile Me team on instant chat which makes things even more frustrating. I didn't get anywhere. They helped me sort out some of the errors that were popping up but that was basically it.

I have spent the last 8, yes 8, hours going through all my calendars and reorganising them, trying to sort out the mess that the upgrade caused...it had corrupted a lot of my data, wrong dates etc. I have ended up recreating all my calendars locally so that I can have groups again and am syncing those to my iPhone through iTunes. I am in the process of importing the most important ones to mobileme so that they sync across my devices and can't believe how long it takes, sooo slow! The ones that I am importing to mobile me are the ones that are the most active so I'm hoping that this will prove to be a work around for me, we'll see! I have deselected those for the iTunes sync.

However I have kept a duplicate locally as when importing I keep getting error messages saying access to a certain entry is not allowed and then that entry disappears. I've ended up having to reimport the back ups and compare the two to see what's missing so I've decided to keep a duplicate for now.

So at the moment I have the majority of my calendars in groups locally, syncing through iTunes, and the remaining most active ones on MobileMe. I'm not sure if this combination is going to work though! The thing I liked most about mobileme was that it synced across all your devices and now I am going to have to remember to that manually but it's the only way I can have groups and keep the data safe as the imports are not completely successful!

I hope Apple are listening to all the complaints!

As the OP of this thread I have changed my mind... The new iCal is better and faster then ever across my devices - 3 mac's, iPhone and iPad... True, there is still not full alarm support on MM or iOS devices and No Group support but it is really fast for me... Almost instantaneous.

I am sorry for the trouble you are having but once you sort things out I am sure you will see improvement too...

Make sure to read thru (very carefully) this new Apple support article dated May, 11, 2011: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4340

given up!

Well I've given up. I spent all last night and all today trying to sort it out. I have read everything, completed steps a zillion times and still the data gets corrupted, it's slow and I need groups!

I have ended up storing everything locally, in groups, synced them across my devices and created one calendar on mobile me for any new entries that I enter on my devices other than my mac, to update later. Only way I have been able to get it work for me!

The thing that irritates me most is that when I create a new event and start typing to give it a name, the MobileMe sync jerks the rug out from under me after a few characters by sending the info to the server, thereby halting my title entry and removing the editing status of the event. I then have to double-click the event and sometimes click "Edit" to get back where I can complete the name of the event. Anybody else seeing this? What a pain! Very un-Apple-like to have overlooked this little bit of attention to detail...
