Do we have any rumored September dates for iCal's release?

iCal doesnt look that cool... But I would still like to have it just to have it :), will it only work on 10.2, or will it work on 10.1?

As for rumored dates, I dont think there are any rumored dates.

i think ical is going to be my favorite iApp since iTunes... i've been waiting for an easy way to share my busy schedule with everyone i know...

as for what systems it will work on... i'm positive steve said 10.2 only

i have tested the iCal beta it's pretty nice, also it is compatible with Outlook, so you can share it with Windows users too. (some fetures anyway)

iCal vs Entourage

Entourage can't completely be compared to iCal but the calender can. Once iCal comes out as well as iSync...I won't need Entourage any longer. I will however have to use 3 apps to take the place of Entourage....mail, addressbook and iCal.

Getting rid of Entourage Mail was one of the happiest results of Jaguar. Entourage must have the dumbest mail filtering system ever created. The address book was lousy too -- importing was a nightmare. As for replacing one program with several -- good. Sometimes I don't want to call up my e-mail program when I need the calendar.

God, I hate Microsoft Office! PC manufacturers are dumping it in favor of cheaper alternatives. http://news.com.com/2100-1001-955383.html

It's a good time for Apple to take the plunge and push for either StarOffice or AppleWorks ownership instead.

Good point on the calendar...

Maybe I'm just pulling this outta thin air but I thought Steve said iCal and iSync would be released some time in late September.

dang...i would really like it now so i can get organized for school

this is exactly what i want to do. sure it's nice + fun to make movies, dvds, or organize my photos but i don't require these to survive as a student.

iCal will hopefully provide me with something that i've only dreamed of before.

most calendar applications do much more than i need them to (such as entourage) and this has caused me to become a little scared to use them much (plus they can be gol darn expensive). i also don't have a pda so i don't see any value in palm desktop.

i've also *never* found a decent gui for a calendar program. once you get past some of the bright colors of iCal, the design seems well suited for what i need it. the calendar takes up the main screen (monthly, weekly, or daily -- considering what i need) and to do items are on the side of the interface. perfection. no cumbersome toolbars for switching between program functions and no distracting settings that are optional (iCal has floating palettes for that)

perhaps the most important reason i'll use iCal, though, is its subscription feature. i find it quite necessary to share my schedule with many people (e.g.: ambitiouslemon.com staff, family, friends, coworkers, and people involved in othe personal projects) i also love the fact that i can view other peoples' calendars over mine. this will make group collaboration (with the people i convert to macs ;) ) so incredibly manageable.

iCal will be a godsend. thank you apple

I agree completely. I just got to school and this is what sparked me to post the topic. I go to Carnegie Mellon University, which has the largest wireless network in the country, and to be able to do all of these things (as well as sync with my iPod) will be of great help.

Through iSync, I think.

I figure iCal and iSync will come out on the same day...

I think you will need bluetooth to be able sync with your pda using isync/iCal/addressbook.

No, that is incorrect. Steve said that you can use iSync to synchronize anything that is connected in any way.

That was one of the biggest "wow" factors. He listed Bluetooth, USB, FireWire, and Airport/Ethernet. He said that it doesn't matter how it is connected, it will show up and then you can synchronize. (see apple video from macworld, just after 1:24:00 into the show he talks about this.)

Quote from Steve Jobs
"...Firewire for the iPod, USB for the Palm, wireless BlueTooth for your cellphones. Whatever/however they are connected, they show up."

Hey Quark, since you have the keynote up, can you confirm Steve setting any general timeframe for the release of iCal and iSync?

September. That's all he said.

He didn't say early or late; just September.

I can't wait!

Until iCal and iSync come along I will be sticking with entourage and iPod-it.

Check out versiontracker. "iPod-it" is great. I cant wait to see what it will do in the future.

iCal/iSync

So would I be overspeculating in saying that it'll possibly sync with the Sharp Zaurus SL-5000D I just bought.

Oh please please please!!!
