Ive had my ATV2 for a while now and keep reading up about jailbreaking it.

I come up with many reasons why i should, then convince myself that i shouldnt. Maybe if i saw a jailbroken one it would convince me either way.

My question is, is it as good as i keep hearing. For example, Icefilms when streamed on my home PC (granted it is a few years old) really isnt even "DVD quality", a long way off.

Is it any better via ATV?

It would take you five, ten minutes max to jailbreak and install XBMC and Icefilms. Try it. If you don't like it, restore the ATV2.

I just got mine, and I love it, the hd movie quality is great. Tv shows are good quality as well. It's easy and safe to do, if you don't like it then restore your atv.

Macrumors has a very strong stance against piracy and yet ice films is basically the ability to stream pirated movies so why is this sort of discussion allowed or am I missing something?

I did my ATV2 last weekend, its amazing the amount of content on icelibrary. Some streams are fantastic others are poor (e.g. the walking dead first two eps are poor quality, however the wife is catching up on desperate housewives and 24 and the quality is excellent). Not watched any movies yet.

Sports is hit and miss, ive sports devil for live streams of premier league games, some are great, but again some are really poor. if anyone knows any better add ons let me know. Also I need a decent add on for UFC. In the UK we are currently being messed around with the UFC fights, some are on espn some are on FX and others are on random channels.

Regarding copyright, the tv shows we have a lot on boxset and also borrow of friends but its pure convenience to watch them all in one place. Regarding sports, I subscribe to Sky Sports and ESPN, I would pay extra to get every single football game and UFC fight but at the moment this is just not possible as no company shows them all. We cannot watch live fights on UFC.com as we are in the UK and they black them out. XBMC allows me to watch these fights and games, I will gladly pay to watch live fights and matches as I believe in paying for what I use, but at the moment it is just not possible.
