I have been wanting to do an audio chat in iChat for a while, now, but the option is not available. The only microphone I have is the one built into my Powerbook, so the option should be available. It's not, though, and I am wondering if anyone is having the same problem, or if anyone knows how to solve this issue. I'm running 10.3.4 with iChat 2.1 (v153).

edit: forgot to mention that I'm on a wireless network. Don't know if that matters...

I've been having the same problems at work with my g4 imac and its built in mic. I'm running panther. It's not a firewall issue,w ith same person I can see their video feeed in virtual pc. I've heard that you can't do an audio chat with a windows user if you odn't have a camera, but i'm not sure.

I've had the same problem... so I bought an iSight hoping it would enable 1/2-way audio and 1-way video. Connecting the iSight enabled 1-way video chat only... but that still doesn't work with windows users, I'm thinking that hasn't been implemented yet.

I wish Apple released a PC version of iChat AV. I think iChat is a lot nicer to use than any on the PC. I particularly like how in a text chat my text is a set of speech bubbles on one side, and the other person's a set of different colored bubbles on the other side of the chat window, makes it so clear who wrote what. :) nice

p.s. when I click on another mac user all the options are enabled. So 1/2-way audio and video chat work fine.

What is 1/2 way audio chat? Is it where you can talk to them, but they can't talk back?

Unfortunately, I don't have any mac user friends, so I guess I can't ever audio or video chat with them. . . that sucks. . .

sorry =] I meant... 1 shash 2 way audio chat.

eg: ((one-way) or (two-way)) = 1/2-way

AFAIK, iChat doesn't allow voice-only conversations with AIM 5.5; don't know if that helps. It's odd, and I don't know why it's true, but I can't iChat voice-only with any PC users, and I think it's a limitation of iChat. Or, maybe, AIM.
