Hi, I'm a new Mac user (PowerBook5,6 1.67GHz/1GB RAM/64MB VRAM), and I'm trying to use iChat AV 3.0.1 to connect to my gmail account. Here are my settings:

JabberID: mat.wilkinson@gmail.com
server: talk.google.com
port: 5223

(Y) Connect using SSL
(Y) Allow self-aligning certificates

I get this error, however,

"An unexpected SSL error occured
-9843"

Same here.

Hi Azrel,

I'm getting the exact same error message. Don't know why. Yesterday iChat still worked like a charm with talk.google.com, but today it hasn't been able to connect to it at all. Very weird...

Any suggestions, anyone?

Damn this sucks, so I haven't misconfigured anything?

The port specified on the Developer Information page for Google Talk is 5222.

They're being inconsistent then... the port mentioned in the iChat setup help says port 5223, which I believe is the default Jabber port for SSL connections.

Anyway, I tried both and neither work.

Works fine in Adium. But it use port 5222, and not SSL. Works fine in Trillian for Windows, with port 5222.

Edit:

From Google Help Center:

There are currently connection issues with the iChat client. We are aware of the problem and are working on it. Please expect a fix in the next few days. Thanks for your patience during our beta period!

Ah ha! Thank-you! I haven't used Adium, is this better than iChat? Sorry for my noobness, I only got my Mac 2 days ago.
