I can NEVER seem to be able to paste a large amount of text to a friend... It ends up sending as a big black box. I always have problem with the direct connect feature (which i can't even initiate). Anyone else have similar problems. Thanks.

As for the direct connect feature, iChat should try to direct connect automatically when you have something that needs a direct connection. So just try to send whatever it is, and let iChat deal with the direct connection on its own. If I'm understanding you correctly... exactly what's the problem you're having with it?
