Is the video chat in iChat supported by voice chat?

I was in video chat last night with a friend, testing out my cam in the macbook, but noticed that the audio chat wasn't working inconjunction with it. Can or cannot a person talk while video chat is in session?

I know there isnt anything wrong with my mic or my friends. We tried just doing an audio chat and that went smoothly.

Thanks.

How do I know if I dont have the bandwidth for it? Under my iChat preferences, under the video tab, I have my bandwidth limit set to "none".

Does ichat work with the new intels? I get my ichat to work maybe once out ten tries with my black macbook.

iChat is one of apple's applications. Apple has universal binaries of all of their software, so yes, it should work natively with intel macs. Your experience is out of the ordinary.

I should be more specific. The video chat is where I'm having a problem.

If you do a plain audio chat, does it work ok?

Is the proper microphone set in System Preferences --> Sound --> Input?
Is the proper microphone set in iChat --> Preferences --> Video --> Microphone?

While in a chat, go to Video --> Connection Doctor...
Check your audio and video health.

Reality- Yes, the preferences are fine for both system and ichat. everything looks fine.

When I did a regular audio chat, it worked smoothly and great. but the audio just doesnt work in the ichat video chat.
