iChat sounds

I really dislike iChat, but at the moment there's no AIM client that suits my needs any better (I'm open to suggestions... I loved Adium 1.x but it won't connect anymore, and the new version -- along with Fire, etc -- is too complicated... I only use one service and want a simple yet customizable app to access it. iChat is simple, but nowhere near customizable enough.) Anyway, I know this is possible, but I guess I'm kind of brain-dead ATM... how do I make it so that iChat shuts up and doesn't play the alert sounds when I'm away?

If you open iChat and click on the name in the top menu bar of your screen you can control a lot. Color and sounds.

Are you referring to iChat's preferences? I kinda figured that out, I'm not exactly a n00b. And if you think that the options Apple has provided constitutes "a lot," you clearly haven't seen some of the third-party AIM apps available.

All that aside, I'm looking for a specific option that allows me to mute iChat's sounds when I'm away/not available. I know it exists (it has to), I just can't seem to find it.
