My friend and I have been trying for about a week to connect via video iChat, but we both get the same connection speed error. It says our connection speeds aren't high enough, but we are both running around 1500 kbps. I know we can do it because we have done it before. Audio chat won't work either and both of us only have the single camera beside our icon on the buddy window. We have successfully connected with video Skype so I think it is some problem with iChat. We are both running 2.0 Ghz Macbooks.

try skype with video or sightspeed.

We have tried Skype and it works just fine with the quality iChat would give us. I haven't tried without my router, but I don't know why this would cause this problem because I haven't made any changes to the settings of my router or firewall. My friend did changes some settings on his router, but he changes them back and made sure that all of the correct ports were open. Just out of curiosity, what ports does iChat use?

Just my personal opinion, (and I am still using a PC) but I have been very disappointed with Skype. I wanted to use it for video/voice conferencing with my kids. Typing instant messages works and so does voice chat, but when I try the video, the results are terrible.

We have had great success with video/voice chat on MSN Messenger, but I understand that the Mac doesn't have the newer version. I am watching these events closely as I am planning on buying an iMac and will be wanting to continue my video conferences.

Just thought I would share that. Good luck.
