This just started happeneing on Tuesday when I did the software update for Java. Now, each time a person in my buddy list signs on or off, or changes their away message, I get this 2"x2" notice in the middle of my screen that says the persons name, then their status below it. It's really annoying, and I have turned all the actions off in the preferences. Anyone have any idea what else I might need to do?

Looks like the iChat Bezel widget for Konfabulator. Just delete it from the Widgets folder.
