well since the only way to get the actual look of the classic ipod, is to download a theme that installs winterboard, its a no go for me since my jailbroken phone is a 3g and i don't want winterboard on the phone slowing it down. but for people who have a 3gs or no issues with winterboard, once you install the separate theme it will look and act just like an ipod classic on your iphone.

I found a method that you can use to skin it without Winterboard!

Download the images from here and place those images in var/stash/Applications/iclassic.app
 
It's has a nice novelty factor but not terribly functional compared to the default ipod UI. Also a bit buggy, have had 4 crashes so far just selecting albums, using next\previous etc. Menu load times are very slow and track count does not always display.

can you use that same method to alter the text message background picture without winterboard too? how what file would i need to overwrite?

To be honest I'm not sure. I will look into it and if I can't figure it out I'll ask the developers.
 
Wasn't the dev of this showing this off here earlier this year? He was submitting it to the AppStore at the time.

Really? I wasn't aware of that!. Apple would NEVER approve it anyways:p
