Im a little confused here. I was told by my Apple Store that im allowed upto 1000 photos in my iPhone5 photostream without it taking up any of my iCloud storage. But ive almost filled my 5GB iCloud allowance and most of it is photos.

So looking at these screen shots, would you say I am actually backing up all my photos in my camera roll in addition to my 1000 photostream allowance? When I log into iCloud I cant see any photos anywhere.

Thanks:)

Photo Stream is not the same as the iCloud backup of your Camera Roll.

Basically, Photo Stream "streams" your photos to your other devices, whether iOS, Mac or Windows, so that you can view and easily import the last 1000 photos on any device you have setup with iCloud. Photo Stream does not take up does not take up iCloud space.
The iCloud Backup of the Camera Roll does take up space and backs up ALL photos and videos on the device. If you restore from iCloud all the camera roll is redownloaded.

They are partially redudent, but different.

See:

Many thanks, that helps explain it. I had wrongly assumed that photo stream was part of iCloud.

I think I will turn off my camera roll from being backed up via iCloud as whenever I take a photo with my iPhone it is streamed to my MacBook where I file it in iPhoto. I don't think I need photos backed up in iCloud.

Thanks:)
