I’ve been on iOS devices since 2012 and it used to be when you factory reset a device that you could choose to not remove it from your iCloud account. It seems, though, that this is no longer an option. I reset my iPhone XR to factory settings recently and chose not to enter my iCloud ID at the end of the process and the device was not sent through the reset process.

I know that Apple was trying to find a way to thwart thieves who sold devices which were still connected to an iCloud account, but I’m not sure when it happened. Have we arrived at the point where the lack of the set up screen means that iCloud Activation is enabled? If so, then buying an iOS device has become much easier.
