So, my mother and I share an Apple ID. However, our content is separate; her downloaded content is on her computer and iPhone, while my content is on my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. With the advent of iCloud, I'm a little worried if our content will remain separate.

I like automatic downloading for music and Photo Stream, and my mother will almost definitely use Photo Stream to add her Camera Roll to her computer. She doesn't use her computer to download music and apps, so she'll disable those. However, if I have automatic downloading for music enabled on my devices and not on hers, would my music still download onto her iPhone and computer, in addition to my devices? I have a similar question regarding Photo Stream - since we'll both have that feature enabled, will we be getting eachothers pictures sent to our devices?

I'm pretty confused about this, so thanks in advance for replies.

have a read of this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1240129/,

if you both use the same iCloud account then it will merge all you photos using photo stream, you essentially both will want your own apple ID/iCloud each, but one of you can allow the other to buy stuff from the others account, so say you mum uses the appleID you both share now for iCloud but you would still buy your apps from it, in the itunes store app but then you have your own apple ID that you use for iCloud functions like photo stream and contacts sync ect.

Hmmm...sounds like a headache.

Would it be possible for my mother to make a new Apple ID and still use the apps/music downloaded from our currently shared account? If so, how would I do that?

I changed appleids a few months in. You can authorize music and apps to be usable on devices with another account as long as you know the password for that account. Same works for app updates, but you may at times have to log out and back in as the other account for certain functions, such as in app purchases, or initially downloading an app that was purchased on another account.

Also, iTunes in the cloud lets you only download music purchased on the currently logged in account. You will either have to log in as the old account for the initial download or do it from within iTunes that is authorized for both accounts. And then sync.

Basically, if you know the passwords to both accounts, it can be done but it can be cumbersome. There is no way as of today to truly transfer purchases between accounts, only cross-authorization.

I have seen threads saying apple is working on merging apple ids, and hopefully will include this, but it does not exist yet

Alright, I guess we'll split into two Apple IDs then. But my mother's computer will have to be authorized for both accounts in order to work with the old content, right? Which means that iCloud would still sync to my iDevices, my Mac, and her computer, correct?

You will have to log on to both devices as the original account to get the music and apps on both devices. Then on your device, log on as your new apple id. From that point on all downloads will be separate (not synced) across but you will be able to update apps from the old account on the 2nd device by knowing the password.

only your mothers iTunes has to be authorised (like it is now) because you wouldn't sign into 'Mail', 'Calender' ect (if it's a Mac) it wouldn't sync any of her stuff to your appleID/iCloud, you mother would use her appleID to sign into those.

Apple IDs and iCloud IDs are two different things. You can share an iTunes account and have different iCloud accounts.
