iCloud and AppleCare - Do I need external back up?

I will have AppleCare on my Mac for the foreseeable future, and I also store all of my important documents on my cloud. Do I really need to have an external back up drive? I have documents and pictures that are important to me, all else can be downloaded or replaced. Also have multiple apple devices, so can survive a single hardware failure and still have access. Any thoughts?

Always have a backup of your backup, even if you use the Cloud. Never rely on one source for your important files.
