So I have an apple ID I have had for a bunch of years. it mainly has apps and music my kids wanted for the their iPods.. so whenever they wanted to buy something I had to sign in to purchase it..

Now, I just ordered my first iPhone, my Son will be getting an iPhone as well, my wife has an iPhone 5s and my daughter has an iPod 4. the iPod4 is on my account.

I want to start fresh, as I don't want the dozens of maker apps they had on their iPods, I need to conevrt the info on the account to be all me, then create accounts for the kids and attach my wife to my account ( the family setup)

Question is what is the best way for me to do this? use my current account? create a new one? there is music and apps on my current account I want to keep and possibly have on my phone

How would you set it up?

Each device needs its own iCloud account then you just sign into your App Store account in the iTunes options on each device. You don't need to worry about the family sharing that way.

Option two.

Each device has its own iTunes and iCloud account and you dump the old account.

As I understand it.. I can have an account and share the music apps with the family.. My son will be 13 and my daughter is 10

this is what I would like to set-up

Family Sharing makes it easy for up to six people in your family to share each other’s iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases without sharing accounts. Pay for family purchases with the same credit card and approve kids’ spending right from a parent’s device. And share photos, a family calendar, and more to help keep everyone connected.

Looks like the iPod 4th gen is not going to work on the family sharing..

Can I share the music from the current account with other accounts? I can change the email on the current account and then create a new one for myself..

For family sharing to work properly you need each person setup with there own accounts and you as the primary.

You can't sign in and out of an iTunes account as it'll trigger a 90 day lock so your device will have to be signed into your old account if you wish to access the old purchases.

So would it be possible to create a new account for myself, then use my old account for my daughter? (Different email addresses)

Also once the family sharing is setup we would then be able to access the music/apps on the current account as well as our own account correct?

Sorry for the questions, I am just trying to understand how it all works before I receive my device

I think I have a plan.. After talking to a Tech at Apple

-Use the Current iTunes account for my phone (just watch the apps that get installed)
-Set-up the rest of the family with Apple IDs
-Add them to the Family share

Sounded like my Daughter can use her iPod Touch 4, but we might move her to a 5 just for the newer iOS and functions
