I've been using iCloud for a while now thinking that it would be great to have my photos automatically saved in the cloud, but it has turned into such a hassle now that my iPhone no longer has much space. I recently had to delete some photos and videos from my iPhone and of course the pop-up said that these photos will be deleted from all of my devices. Why would Apple not make this a simple choice ("delete from all devices? yes/no")?
What have some of you done to get past what seems to be a big oversight on the part of Apple? Am I missing something or is it just not possible to delete photos from one device and not all others?

I'm using "Optimize iPhone Storage" but it still uses about 1.2gb of storage.
