I did some research before I post this thread, but couldn't find any answers!

When I used to use MobileMe contacts, I was able to sync google and MobileMe contacts using Contacts app on Mac OS X (both Snow Leopard and Lion)

Now, with the beta update that includes iCloud app, it seems that iCloud won't allow this anymore once you try to activate both of the services. It shows a message stating that google cannot be synced with iCloud. It has to be turned off!

Any ideas?

I've been playing with this for over an hour now and it seems like you COULD sync your address book with Google (found under Address Book preferences) but this appears to disable your connection with iCloud (even if both boxes are now checked). I noticed that when I stopped and restarted contact syncing with iCloud, the sync with Google box was no longer checked... I'm still working on it and if anyone has any other helpful hints, please let us know. I'm also on hold with Apple and will get some straight answers and post them.

I would love to find out if this is possible too. I have always used Google contacts. I have hundreds of contacts there, and I add new ones regularly. However, my iPhone is supposed to arrive tomorrow (I set up my iCloud account today), and I am bound and determined to find a way to sync my contacts from one to the other. :apple:

I subscribed to this thread to get this information. If I turn off Active Sync on my phone, I lose all the contacts on my phone. This is fine because all of my contacts are in GMail, but how do I get the GMail contacts into iCloud so I can resync it when I receive my 4s tomorrow?

I had MM and Google Sync both on in Address book, then noticed Google contact sync stopped working when I moved to 10.7.2 and iCloud. I went into Address Book prefs and turned off iCloud sync and turned on Google Sync and that works, but if you go back to the iCloud pref panel and try to turn Contacts sync on you get a message that it will not work with Google Sync turned on.

So for now, it looks like if you have iCloud contacts sync on you cannot use Google Sync also.

This is really frustrated. I always add new contacts on gmail, and have people update their avatar which in fact takes effect on both gmail and address book app (then to all my iDevices)

Not a good idea Apple, not a good idea at all

As a work around you can select all your addresses then export to a VCF file and import that to Google Contacts. Not automatic, but it will get the data in there.

You can link two contacts together from different Address Books, if you edit that contact on your phone then it appears on both, not sure what happens if you edit a contact through iCloud or Google.

I think it's called unified contacts, or maybe just linked contacts, not 100%.
