according to the WWDC 2011 keynote, apps won't take a piece of those 5 GB we have in our cloud... but if I go to
Settings / iCloud
and try to perform a manual backup, it says I don't have enough space on my iCloud!

"we are not counting purchased music, apps or book"... but what about if I purchase a video player and I put some videos on it, will the file's MB size count for the iCloud backup?

Edit
To be more specific...
1. Didn't backup any app
2. Upgraded to iOS 5
3. Redownloaded my video player (Flex:player) from the purchased section on the iPad
4. All my videos were there!

Any data you store in the apps counts (except for the data stored for the Music, Video, and iBooks apps).

The app itself won't count (its already on apples servers so why create a copy) but any associated data it creates or you add (game saves, downloaded data) will (as they aren't already on apples servers).

That's what I thought...
But before upgrading to iOS 5 I had to remove everything (including my video player) from my iPad cause I didn't have enough hard drive space to perform a backup, after iOS 5 upgrade I went to App Store on my iPad and redownloaded the app from the Purchased section, and all my videos were there! and I didn't do any backup!... FYI I still have 4.9 GB free in my iCloud

So... I'm confused :p

What video player is it?

Flex:player

for the sake of argument... let's say that I didn't remove that app and I did a backup of it (including it's content - the videos-)...
if I go to
iCloud / storage and backup / manage storage / my iPad
I realize that Flex:player is 13GB big, and I only have 8GB free on my PC's hard drive. so... still can't explain it!

It was my understanding that videos were not backed up to iCloud. I could be wrong but that's what I read. Sorry, can't provide links because I have read so many articles, etc. that I don't remember where it came from.

How much photos do you have on your iOS device? I have about 6+ gigs myself so I too am over the limit.

You can actually see how much each app is potentially taking up in the backup if you go into Settings and choose the device.

the only way it could have backed up the videos is if it considered the app as a 13GB app, but still... we only have 5GB in iCloud and I only have 8GB free on my PC.

but in that case... app's data doesn't count for iCloud, which it does #

Does Anyone Know

How much extra storage costs? I've been to a dozen places and got a dozen different answers.

5GB won't cut it for me I'm looking at 30 at least to make it worth considering. It's off for now.

It's rather interesting that Apples been so secretive about storage upgrade fees. Most probably to allow enough time for them to repeat "it's free". Once people wake up to the fact that they're left with less than 5GB, they will be in deep enough to pay the price.

go straight to the source to find prices: Settings - icloud - Storage & backup - Buy more storage. The prices will display in your local currency.

Don't see how its secretive or difficult to find out. the question was asked and I thought I'll go and find out, 30s later I'd found out!!
