So I am going to do a full restore of my moms Mac and I have time for this so I thought I do some research now since I have the time.

I am thinking of doing a fresh install using Mountain Lion since I have it on a thumb drive and she has Snow Leopard now. If I remember correctly she can get an iCloud email address also. I was thinking she should get a different email because she has comcast and if she ever drops them, she's SOL for email. Now if she stop using Apple products in the future and goes back to Windows, will she lose her iCloud, or do we keep that no matter what?

This was posted on MacRumors a while back by the poster tywebb13. Here is his single post on how to make a USB install disk for 10.9.

There is another way that works as described in the video called How-to Create MAC OSX 10.9 Mavericks Bootable USB Disk and download a free copy.

Either way will work. Good Luck.

Now in leaving an iPhone/Mac she can keep here iCloud stuff too by using the Apple server document hot to called iCloud: Mail server information.
Thanks. It seems more involved making a USB for mavericks than mountain lion. I might put Mavericks, but seems like ML is more stable for now.
