Hi, not certain where this should be posted but will start here. We have started to have issues with our home wi-fi bogging down to where it is almost unusable and it would require us to disconnect the router and reconnect, and then it would again become unusable within minutes. After much trial and error I have determined that it is an issue related to our Iphones being connected to Icloud. If I turn Icloud off on both of our Iphones, Wi-fi seems to work normally. All of this may have started about the time that I updated our Iphones to the latest IOS system. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? Thanks for any responses.

Having your iPhone or any other iDevice connected to iCloud should not cause a bogging down of the connection to the point where it's disconnecting. Have you thought about perhaps changing your router to one that provides a better signal? Perhaps a dual band router? The Apple Airport Extreme is a good router and should give you a strong signal that can handle the load.

Thanks for the input. Our wireless router is several years old. It's a 2.4 ghz Lynksis that is supposed to be capable of handling 54 mps, and our internet service is only putting out about 6 mps so I presumed it would be more than adequate. However, I get the feeling that I'm chasing my tail here. Now it seems that the root cause of the issue is whenever I have my cellphone plugged in to a charger.

Time gets away from us. After checking, our router is about 8 years old. I replaced it today with a new more powerful wireless router, and that seems to be correcting our issues. Thanks to Chscag for the suggestions.

Update: Well, I'm still having issues with wi-fi performance even after replacing our old wireless router. Crazy as it sounds, it seems to be when my Iphone is plugged in to a power source and is turned on. When my wife's identical Iphone is plugged in to a power source and turned on it doesn't seem to be an issue. The battle goes on.

I called our internet service provider today and have been advised that they have an issue with our service. Sounds like it is their issue and am waiting for them to resolve it.

I keep updating this thread for the benefit of anyone else that may be experiencing similar issues. I have been informed by our internet provider that they have determined that this is not their issue and that it is on my end to figure out. The senior tech warned me that they have encountered similar issues with folks who own Iphones, specifically those who use Icloud and regularly scheduled backup. They say this puts an abnormal load on band width during the backup. I have deactivated scheduled backups on my wife and my Iphones, and it seems to be helping. We will see. We live in the country and only have 6 mbps to work with, and we are regular Netflix users, so we don't have a lot to spare.

Your ISP is full of baloney and just making excuses for their poor service. Not surprising since you live remotely and probably don't have too many choices for an ISP. Here in my area (Dallas - Fort Worth) the competition is fierce for business and the ISPs generally are very helpful even for those of us who use the "other" computers. :apple:

chscag, I really do appreciate your conversation on this issue. I tend to agree with you as we are using the same Iphones and computers that we have had for almost two years with no problems up until several weeks ago. Now, the only thing I can say is that these issues may have started around the same time that we did the most recent IOS upgrades on our Iphones, I can't remember for sure. You are correct in that our options are limited. Thanks again for your input.

Update on our wi-fi issues. We have wound up shutting off the auto-backup feature on our Icloud accounts on both of our Iphones and that has essentially stopped our sluggish internet issues that I had reported.
