@icloud as one and only Apple ID?

Hi guys,

I've been wanting to delete my Microsoft Account and move completely to the Apple ecosystem, but the final step is to use my address@icloud.com as my main, one and only Apple ID. This was not possible before (it returned the error "your Apple ID cannot be from a domain owned by Apple) but if you go to https://appleid.apple.com/ you can now edit your email but does not warn you of using @icloud.com as your main Apple ID. I am a little... "scared" of carrying on with this, so I was wondering if anyone has had luck with this? (Also, I wouldn't want to lose all my purchased items).

Any insight on this?

hmmm i thought you cannot use an iCloud email as your apple id ?

Don't see why you couldn't. I use my old mac.com address as my appleID email. And the account is still active through Apple.

They don't let you do this, unfortunately. You need a non-Apple e-mail to use as your main ID.

I'm using my @me.com as my Apple ID just fine. I use it for iCloud, on iTunes and when I buy stuff from the Apple Store online and in person. On the Apple ID website it's listed as my Apple ID and my contactable address along with the same email but with @icloud.com. Dunno what people are talking about when they say it's not allowed.

Yes, you could before ... but you can't anymore. You're no longer allowed to use your Apple ID as your main ID. You can still use your Apple ID to sign in, but you need a non-Apple e-mail as well. It's incredibly annoying.

That is annoying! It'd frustrate me to no end not being able to have everything apple under the one account and email.

You can but only if you start out that way. So most likely they don't use outlook or gmail.
But given how obvious tcook@icloud.com would be, I wonder how they choose an email for personal use.
What you really want is to be able to merge apple I/d's. But that's another story.

It is especially annoying if I use my gmail account as my Apple ID email (which I no longer do), as any calendar events from an Apple device get automatically directed to my Apple calendar instead of my Google calendar (as I thought should have happen seeing as it is a gmail email).

Changing the default account in Mail, Contacts, and Calendars doesn't help with this?

I'm not sure what you mean. Like if you have an @att.net email or something?

eg... You sign up to an DSL, but then what to change your primary email address... you can only create alias username since the main one is tied to your account.

My Apple ID is a me.com address, that caused no problems, it created an alias as @icloud.com which I disregard

But only because that's how you started. If you had created a non Apple email address as your Apple ID originally you wouldn't be able to change it to one.
