A recent hotel visit got me thinking about what I transmit over public wifi. I don't care if someone sees I'm watching Netflix or checking Macrumors, but what about the automatic iCloud backups most people have set up? Are iCloud backups safe for public wifi?

I don't know too much about encryption. As I understand it, iMessages, for example, are encrypted end-to-end with keys. Do iCloud backups use the same process? I wish apple would let me select a trusted network to backup on.
