I am currently running an icloud backup on my iphone 4, which estimated time of completion is another day. If I cancel/pause the backup, will it restore from the same point or start a whole new backup?
Basically, is there any way I can pause it at the moment?

The first backup needs to be completed from start to end (not sure if you can stop/start it). From then on backups are only the difference (changes) made and should not take too long. If this is your first you need to let it run the course. I personally much prefer iTunes backup since it is many times faster (especially important when restoring or replacing an iDevice).

How big is the backup size? Also what's your connection speed? If it's slow, you may want to consider connecting to a faster wi-fi in order to speed up the data transfer.
