i am trying to do an ICloud backup of my mother's Ipad. She is getting a newer one and never backed up the old one. the problem is i get a message saying not enough space on this device to complete backup. I do not understand why it matters how much space is on the device since the backup is to Icloud

That's correct about the storage of the data in the cloud, but to upload things to the iCloud the iPad creates temporary files during the backup process. These files are stored on the device temporarily before being uploaded to iCloud.

Oh, I did not know that, now I understand, thanks. She will just have to re download the Apps manually
