So I'm running the GM version of Lion and I installed the latest version of iCloud. As well as this I've also got iOS5 on my iPad. During DP4 I tried to activate an old expired account that I had, but with no success. Being a bit of a stubborn fool the first thing I did once I had the GM installed was to see if I could get this account active.

As it turns out you can. My now previously expired account seems to be active and I can now sync calendar events and contacts between all my devices using this account. However, my email account is not active...although emails that I send to the address are no longer returned to me. When setting up the iCloud account in Lion all the boxes get checked but the account does not appear in Mail.

Just thought I'd share, if I discover anything else I'll post that too. ;)

Did you try setting up the account in iCloud on ios 5 after it got activated. I am getting "user name or password incorrect" error when I do that.

I set up the account through Lion and not through iOS 5. After it being accepted I then logged in in iOS 5 using the account.

Additionally I've got a new piece of information. Previously when going to http://www.me.com and trying to log in I was told my username or password was not correct. Now when I go there I go directly to the find my iPhone screen.

iCloud mail shows up in iOS 5 mail.app. But I keep getting this error. See attachment. Also, find my iPhone app works with the iCloud transitioned ID.

Yea, expired accounts have been transferred over to iCloud, but mail has not been made active yet.

i think you're right. might take a while for apple to migrate all the mails to the new server. maybe mail will be active once beta 3 is out.
