iCloud Calendar Invitations

Has anyone had any issues inviting apple ids that are gmail addresses to events? My wife's apple Id is her gmail address and mine is me @me.com address. If she sends me an invite it works fine, but I send her one she never gets it. Any ideas?

Honestly I was expecting something completely different with iCloud, I thought it could back up my important files, it seems to be more about backing up contacts, mail etc.. I can't find any option to back up specific folders or files..

Personally. I would never back up "important files" to ANY cloud-based server.
