Can someone clarify whats going on with iCloud documents and iWork documents?

For example, yesterday I was working on pages on my macbook pro and I don't have a printer so for the past couple years I would just email myself the document (super annoying), but this time I noticed the share button on the toolbar and I clicked it and it directed me to iWork.com. I

It works great and I'm really happy with it, but why isn't it in iCloud?

Is there a reason why they're separate?

ICloud is meant to be of for you to keep your stuff synced between devices. iWork.com is for sharing with other people.

That doesn't mean that these are exclusively for that purpose, but that is the way they work best.

iWork.com is a tool that has been around for quit a while (since last Apple's participation in the Macworld event in San Francisco) and which is likely to be a stopped project. Apple did release a beta back then, claimed it would start charging 9.99 for the service once out of beta, did minor improvement and never touched it again. iWork is still in beta.

Now apple released iCloud: a service complementary with iWork (one for syncing and one for sharing) and is unlikely to continue working on iWork until they can merge them together.

The problem is that iCloud is mainly meant for iOS based documents and not Mac Based documents (the number of features available for the 2 platforms makes the documents incompatible). It is possible that soon Apple would integrate the iWork sharing features into iCloud but we shall wait to see. Until then we have 2 crippled platforms. If you start a document in your iOS device you can sink it with your iOS devices but not with a Mac and you can't share it either. If you start your document on a Mac you can share it but not sync it in any way. Once you share it, users could leave comments, but those comments won't sync with the comments of your Mac Based iWork Document either (even thought theoretically they should be the same document). This way, until apple solves this issues, we need to just adjust the tools we have to our needs, but long from having a single unified solution.
