OK, so a bit (really more than a bit) confused about iOS 5 and iCloud.

preface: My wife and I share the same Apple user account to purchase songs/apps/tv/etc.

For starters. Will we be able to use iMessage without getting our chats mixed together?

Will iCloud be usable for each of us?

Will she get her own?

Will we share 5GB?

I see my contacts via iCloud. And can find my phone. Calendar/remidners show up but no mail (need an account)
What about the stuff on my iPhone that is using my iCloud space…specifically my Camera Roll (taking up 4.1GB!!)

Why can't I see those photos?

What is this Photostream? Why can't I see that on iCloud?

I thought photos stored via photo stream/or cloud won't show up in iCloud space.

I have less than a GB left of space on iCloud…I can't even do an iCloud backup.

I added a calendar event in iCloud.com will this not show up until a sync later tonight/whenever they sync together?

We are thinking of getting an iPad…if we use the Camera adapter and load photos to the iPad, will they be sent to the "iCloud" and or my iMac (with Lion on it)?

again, totally confused with this. It seemed there was so much to do but in reality it is crap…I must be missing something here..

Thanks in advance.

Settings / Message / Recieve At

Yes

Will she get her own?
not if both of you enabled iCloud with the same ID

Will we share 5GB?
Yes if you enable iCloud with the same ID

What is this Photostream? Why can't I see that on iCloud?
You mean iCloud.com?... you can't see it there
You need OS X Lion, Windows (Vista or 7) to have the control panel for that

I tought photos stored via photo stream/or cloud won't show up in iCloud space
just Music, apps and book won't take a piece of those 5GB

We are thinking of getting an iPad…if we use the Camera adapter and load photos to the iPad, will they be sent to the "iCloud" and or my iMac (with Lion on it)?
Yes... as far as I know

You and your wife should create separate iCloud accounts so that each of you have 5GB of Back-up storage, then use this new iCloud account for iMessage and FaceTime.

But you and your wife can keep the same account for your app purchases.

thanks of the quick responses.

OK, good to know we can share the same Account for Apps/Music purchases but different ones for iCloud.

That said, when i look to manage my iCloud "storage" on my phone it says Camera Roll, and almost ever app and their weight. why? are these to keep specific settings maybe per app that would't be saved for a re-download if need be?

Is there a point to keep Camera Roll on iCloud if you can't "view" it there? is this merely for 'backup' purposes if I am out and about and need to wipe-clean and restart?

Thankfully I see the Calendar sync working!! I really wish the Camera Roll/PhotoStream was available via iCloud.com, like a Picasa or the like. Then i could share via iCloud rather than upload to another site (Facebook, Flickr, etc.)

Thanks all.

the app itself won't take a piece of iCloud... but the app's data will
example:
A music player weights a few MB, but if you put some videos on it then it'll weight much more... the app itself won't make use those 5GB but the videos they sure will.

ok, silly question... Facebook has weight to my iCloud storage.
This is a sign-in type app, so wouldn't all the info there be synced to the "Facebook website". Therefore meaning i wouldn't need to sync this to iCloud?

just trying to figure things out. about storage. Like do I need to sync the Camera Roll.

idunno. all the apps I have are listed as "on" initially on the iCloud Manage settings. I just turned 99% "off".

It would be nice if iCloud.com had the "apps" there like the Apple Apps. this way I could use the iOS Apps "online" sometimes it is easier to write/update/etc. on a larger keyboard and some apps are exclusively apps, with no web equivalent.

thanks

that would be awesome!..
I'm currently under Windows XP, so I'm not able to manage the Photo-Stream feature. Apple is making me move to Windows 7! which it wouldn't happen if we were able to manage it all (Music, Apps, Books, Photostream, etc...) on iCloud.com website

I use a food/Photo app (PicDish) and it is similar to Twitter/Facebook but is only accessible via iPhone App. I wish I could comment on photos or see photos larger on my desktop. I actually upgraded to Lion because of iCloud...hope it will be worth it.

But PC peeps at least can have the current and last OS, Apple makes their users upgrade.
