iCloud iCloud+ Custom Domain and 123-reg

Anyone managed to add a custom domain to their iCloud+ Mail that has their domain with 123-reg? I'm very new to all this editing DNS records etc and I've followed all the instructions but getting the below message

Check your MX record​

Make sure the settings that you updated on your domain registrar match the ones sent to you. If you just updated the information, try this again in a few minutes.

I’m also new to DNS editing. Did you keep the @ for DNS Entry or change it to your domain name? How did it sort itself out, did it just need time to update?

It reverts to @ but I put my domain in anyway. Yeah I think I was just being impatient!

How long did you have to wait and did you put the quotation marks at the start and end of the spf record?
