I did a fresh install of Catalina on my Mac Pro (2019) machine and noticed that the desktop and documents folder are empty and aren't syncing down from iCloud Drive properly.

I've checked that the file still exist in iCloud Drive, but it looks like it's stuck on something.

Any ideas on what to do next?

It takes some time to sync. Be patient. Wait a day or two and see what happens.

For anyone reading this later on....

I undertook a clean install of Big Sur (latest public beta) and I had the iCloud files not showing up too -- i.e. nothing yet in the Documents folder, as though iCloud wasn't even on. The activity indicator I would usually see in the sidebar also shows nothing. The iCloud.com site showed everything as I expected in the folders, though.

I didn't have to wait a day.. but I did have to leave it ~3hrs before *anything* appeared. I only have ~50GB so I don't know what the deal is with that -- but the UX on this process is not good.
