Embarrassing Apple. What a joke!
Finally I managed to activate my iCloud.

My situation:
I have 1 Macbook Pro and 1 MacBook Air. No (not yet) iPhone and/or iPad. So, guess what? Let's throw some documents in iCloud. Love it when I can work on the same docs with more machine on several locations and occasions.

Joke 1: Impossible. First I have to buy the Numbers app (for my numbers and excel files) for iPhone or iPad. I DON'T HAVE ONE.
I can't skip this screen. Dead end.

Joke 2: This one I already read somewhere. HILARIOUS: Each time after changing a doc you have to throw it in iCloud MANUALLY through iCloud.com. SERIOUS? Come on guys, it's 2011 and cars are driving on Mars. Would be OK in 1992.

Joke 3: Still not sure IF I can upload an excel doc. Can't change it to a Numbers doc, since it's too large (HUH1?) and too complicated (HUH2?). Lot's of errors. Nothing special actually. Quite some (longer) formulas and "tabs" but not real rocket science.

Joke 4: I run a small business and have my own (jacksnack@owndomain.com). Guess what? I only can send @me.com emails. Not really professional. I just DON'T want to use a @me.com address. I was really hoping that Apple would solve this issue. Would make a lot of people very happy.

Can't find out more jokes yet, but let me be very clear on this one: iCloud is a joke and sucks big time. I hate to say this it's the truth.

More jokes?

Apple wake up asap and do something!
Let me suggest a few things:
1) Create an "iCloud" folder in Finder and all docs stored there will be automatically sent/synced to/with/in iCloud.
2) Arrange buttons, such as "save in iCloud" in iWork, iLife and also give this possibility for third party software (Microsoft Office).
3) Let us choose which photos/movies/etc to send to iCloud. At least give us the option for that besides automatically ALL PHOTOS.

My hot&strong coffee is waiting now. Very dissapointed

EDIT: Please send your comments/feedback to Apple. Maybe they wake up http://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

I am restoring my devices and choosing not to enable iCloud until the wrinkles get ironed out.

you do not have to buy any iOS app, get out of the web interface

the document syncing in iWork is built right into the iOS AND os x apps. you simply plug in your iCloud id and the different apps will sync, there is nothing manual about this. again you're referring to the web interface which is a backup plan.

in no way do you have to use their free email. it was your option to create a me email and its your option to not. if you would like to send an email from your other accounts when you have more than one in mail, please make sure that the inbox you would like to send from is highlighted.

can you explain how it is built into OS X iWork apps?

the same way when you open an iWork app on the iPad you get a list of all your projects, that same list will now be opened when you open pages in os x. if you add a new project to either or make a change to one, it will be reflected in the other. no effort at all on your part.

Except OS X iWork hasn't been updated to work with iCloud. Hense the drag-n-drop.

So, to the OP's point: right now it's for using with iOS apps only.

you've clearly not used it and are making this up. It doesn't work this way and hasn't done since the first iCloud enabled iOS iWork apps were put into beta.

Wait a minute... You clearly have never read anything what so ever about what iCloud actually is and what it does, and you get disappointed when it doesn't live up to what you THOUGHT it was going to be?

I can understand those who rage over mail not working or what have you, but crying like a baby over lack of features no one has ever promised you is a little bit embarrassing...

I can remember Apple saying that everything will be synced between the devices automatically, not manually updating/uploading docs myself. Never heard that!
Besides, I'm not the only one who got stuck with the "buy numbers for iOS" screen. It's simply impossible to upload anything without having an iOS device.

Look at the massive amounts of negative comments regarding the email, errors, lack of...I'm not the only one here.

In my opinion Apple should launch a decent iCloud an not a half baked cake. Paying for it or not is not the issue here.

the document syncing in iWork is built right into the iOS AND os x apps. Document syncing is NOT built in the OSX apps. Do your homework.

you do not have to buy any iOS app, get out of the web interface. BS. It shouldn't be a web interface at all. Apple never told that it was a web interface. and why "get out of the web interface"? I want to use iCloud to sync both my MacBooks. That's what they told me, so that's what I want to do.

yeah, its not at all that you don't understand what you're doing. Clarify, because your info isn't correct. I just respond to the promises of Apple act syncing between Apple products without headaches. Simple as that. Uploading the changed docs through a web interface is BS.

(I removed the bottom half of your message since it wasn't aimed at me.)

I agree, why the iWork sync only applies to iDevices is really weird. I do hope there will be an update as soon as possible to iWork for OSX.

But for the rest, it seems like you thought iCloud was going to be something they've never said it will be.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

OP, have you tried Dropbox?

Seems like it meets your needs better than iCloud.

Unless I have missed something, this feature is not present in the current version of OS X Pages. The only way to access an iCloud document on a Mac at this point is to DL it from the iCloud web interface.

I assume newer versions of Pages will add this feature, but it is not there yet.

This is very true, but surely Apple is working on a fix for this. It would seem to me to be pretty simple to add the ability to open and save files directly to iCloud from within Pages and Numbers. I can understand why you can't update the files directly as IOS Pages and Numbers is just a subset of the OS X versions, but surely the conversion could be done with Pages and Numbers in OS X. I can't believe Apple hasn't added this yet.
