iCloud Drive 5GB?

it'd be cool since i have countless apple devices and 5gb is laughable but knowing apple i doubt it

Reason why google gives it for free is because they sell advertising for the payment. Apple doesnt I got the 20gig plan and works perfect for me.
Microsoft doesn't profile either though, and I currently have 180gb for free. Somehow.
When you can't even backup their smallest, cheapest phone to the cloud without paying, that's just greedy.
can you backup your google phone on google? nope!

That's only because Microsoft doesn't count your phone backup as OneDrive storage
I can't speak for Android as I don't use one, but Windows Phone backs up to the cloud automatically - installed apps, app settings, text messages, etc. You can have multiple backups per account (of unlimited size), and none of it is counted towards your cloud storage space.
I can't even backup my iPhone and iPad via iCloud because I ran out of space. Eventually just stopped backing up my phone via icloud and switched to iTunes backup.
With iCloud drive and photos I really hope they up the free space. If they introduce this and everyone just runs out of space for their photos that are supposed to be streamed on all phones immediately that's just gonna be laughable and another embarrassment for Apple (or have I read this completely wrong and iCloud photos won't use up your space?).
But I guess, or I hope they realize that and will upgrade it.

I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad Mini, and together their iCloud backups are 1.5 GB. What are you guys backing up to iCloud that is eating up so much space? I'm wondering if I'm not doing something correctly.
What are you talking about? Of course you can. Also photos that are under a certain size don't count towards your drive allowance either.

There are like 5 of you that backup phones to windows cloud. So of course it's free lol.
Anyway, 15 or 20 free gigs would be nice.
I don't get it either. My iPhone 5 and iPad mini take up 1.9GB.
It'd be nice to have more free storage though. It would make me consider using iTunes Match for the 15gb of music I can't fit on my iPhone.
iTunes match doesn't count towards your iCloud space. It's a separate service.
Photos
Yes, photos taken in iOS quickly bog down your iCloud backups. However, if you sync your photos to your computer and then back down to your phone, the photos are no longer in the camera roll, so they aren't backed up with iCloud (because iCloud assumes you have them on your desktop, presumably).

It was a mere two weeks ago that they launched their price reduction. .99/mo for 20GB.
There won't be another price decrease, size expansion until iOS9.
From iTunes match page:
"You can store up to 25,000 songs in iCloud (more if songs are purchased from the iTunes Store)"
25000 songs for 25bucks/year
Let's just say you didn't even bother to check.
Anyway, I love it. 16gb owners dream. Check it out.
$25 is the problem. It's not college budget-friendly when I still have a perfectly good iPod Classic.
Photos. But mines all syncing with iCloud Photo Library between my two devices, so really my devices aren't doing too much alone, but I decided to get the 20GB just to be safe and to get away from the 5Gb default, $1.29 a month is cheap.
